Data Management Services, a Data Publication Plan and an Open Data Portal for the Irish Prison Service – OGP Framework in Action!

The Irish Prison Service (IPS) is leveraging the OGP Technical Services Framework for Open Data and Data Management to avail of Derilinx expert services in data management and data publishing, as well as a to develop a fully hosted and managed Open Data Platform solution.

The Irish Prison Service manages the day-to-day operation of prisons in the Republic of Ireland. They operate as an executive office within the Department of Justice and Equality. Their mission is providing safe and secure custody, dignity of care and rehabilitation to prisoners for safer communities.

This project is divided in 2 categories as defined in the Technical Framework:

Category 1: Data Management Services

IPS completed a provisional data audit (AKA Data Inventory Assessment) in 2022. Now there is a requirement under the current framework to review and amend this audit, where necessary, to ensure the information provided is compliant with the requirements of the Open Data Directive.

Derilinx will support IPS on the review and update of the initial Data Inventory Assessment as well as provide ETL and preparation services for identified high-value datasets.

After capturing the information about the datasets, we will develop a plan to publish them and share them to the relevant data platforms and services.

Category 2: Open Data Portal

IPS also requires a fully hosted and managed open data platform solution to have more control over their data publication.

Derilinx will build this portal on datAdore, our Data Sharing Platform. datAdore is a data management platform, based on CKAN, which enables data visibility and sharing as a foundation for compliance, transparency, business intelligence and data ecosystem development.

This platform is currently deployed as the underlying platform for several Open Data and Data Sharing portals of many Governments, Public Bodies and private enterprises both in Ireland and internationally.

By having their own datAdore instance, IPS will ensure:

• Better compliance with regulation
• Wider utilisation of data
• Improved data governance
• More efficient data processes
