From data to interactive dashboards – datAdore Insights now live on data.gov.ie

Data.gov.ie has just launched an exciting new feature: datAdore Insights. This data visualisation tool, integrated into the open data portal, enables publishers to turn raw datasets into interactive dashboards and data stories, making data easier to understand, explore and share.

The Open Data Unit is committed to continuously improving the national portal. Earlier this year, it marked the milestone of surpassing 20,000 datasets. Now, it has taken a bigger step by introducing an integrated data visualisation tool. With datAdore Insights, publishers can create charts, dashboards, and data stories directly within the portal—without the need to export data or rely on external tools.

Until now, publishing dashboards often meant losing oversight of where data was stored and relying on costly external tools. With datAdore Insights, publishers can create and share visualisations directly within the portal — saving time, reducing effort, ensuring consistency, and benefiting from an open-source solution.

This feature makes the portal more engaging for both publishers and re-users:

• Publishers can build charts, dashboards, and full data stories without technical overhead.
• Visitors and Re-users – from journalists and researchers to community groups and the general public – can explore information through interactive visuals that make complex data easier to interpret.

To showcase the new functionality, the Open Data Unit hosted a live demonstration for Open Data Liaison Officers and Data Officers across Ireland. During the session, speakers from Cork City Council, the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration (DOJHAM), and Derilinx presented the new feature along with dashboards created as part of a pilot project.

• Cork City Council demonstrated how local authority data can be transformed into interactive visuals, highlighting city-level insights in a clear and accessible way.
• DOJHAM discussed the potential benefits of using datAdore Insights for the Department. Together with Derilinx, they showcased two pilot dashboards that demonstrated how open data can be used to inform public understanding of key policy areas.
• Derilinx provided an overview of the technical capabilities and best practices for publishers to create their own

These pilots underline the versatility of datAdore Insights, showing how PSBs and Local Authorities with very different types of datasets can turn raw information into compelling stories for both internal use and public engagement.

The addition of datAdore Insights makes the national portal more powerful and user-friendly than ever. For publishers, it lowers the technical barriers to visualising data while strengthening governance and security. For reusers, it offers more engaging ways to interact with datasets, supporting deeper exploration and understanding.

This step reflects Ireland’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accessibility, and innovation in open data — helping to ensure that the information published through data.gov.ie continues to deliver real value for decision-makers and the wider public.

The launch of datAdore Insights represents another important milestone in Ireland’s open data journey. By enabling both richer storytelling and stronger governance, it supports the dual goals of transparency and usability.
